Farrells Fancy returns to fray with a flourish

Farrells Fancy could be a novice hurdler to follow after Terence O'Brien's gelding made a winning return from a six-month lay-off in yesterday's Tipperary Supporters Club Maiden Hurdle.

Never far off the pace, he swept aside Sea Of Thunder after the second-last and held Worldly Wise's challenge by three-quarters of a length with a bit to spare.

Jockey Tom Doyle completed a double when the Jim Culloty-trained Barel Of Laughs took the two-and-a-half-mile novice chase.

Derinlaur led the staying novice chase by 20 lengths at one stage and, though he tired in the closing stages, Charlie Swan's 9/1 chance never looked like being caught.

Shay Barry collared Coole Avenue in the straight to take the two-and-a-half-mile handicap hurdle by a length on Pat Kelly's 20/1 outsider Major Harry.

Across the water, a Kieren Fallon double -- aboard Jack's Revenge and Franciscan -- at Leicester yesterday saw the Clare native erode Paul Hanagan's lead in the jockeys' championship to seven.
