Grand showing from Ireland's McAuley
Mark McAuley was runner-up in the 4-Star Grand Prix at Bourg en Bresse in France yesterday where Mathieu Billot came out on top.
Riding the 13-year-old gelding Miebello, 30-year-old McAuley, whose parents John and Sarah were also successful showjumpers, finished just a second behind the Frenchman. The Italian-based Louth rider was on the winning Irish team in the Division 2 Nations Cup in Drammen, Norway 10 days ago.
At home yesterday Francis Connors cleaned up at the third leg of the Connolly's Red Mills Munster Grand Prix League at Aghlish Gymkhana in Waterford when scooping first, second and fourth places. The consummate horseman produced the only two clear rounds from a field of 19 starters, slotting Uskerty Diamond Lady into pole position ahead of Centolina RB in second spot.
Tholm Keane, competing in his home parish, lined up third with Future Storm having posted the quickest four-fault result while Connors slotted into fourth with Capitol Cruise.
