Sarah Ennis and Horseware Stellor Rebound are tipped to become the first Irish winners of the Irish Field CCI 3-Star competition at Tattersalls International Horse Trials in Fairyhouse this weekend, and an eighth-place slot after dressage yesterday backed up that bid for glory, writes Louise Parkes.

But another of the Irish contingent, Padraig McCarthy and Mr Chunky lie second, while Trish Ryan is in fourth with Dunrath Eclipse.

The popular fixture has attracted a massive field of over 300 horse-and-rider combinations from nine countries who will compete in eight separate competitions, and home runners are determined to break the grip of the British who've dominated the feature class for the last five years.

That may prove challenging, as Britain's Ollie Townend already holds third place with Dunbeau and fifth with Cooley SRS. The field of 26 will tackle the CCI 3-Star cross-country track tomorrow and the final showjumping phase on Sunday.
