Equestrian: Lynch bags third-place windfall aboard Abbervail
Denis Lynch earned €9,000 for third place in the Grand Prix at the four-star show in Braunschweig, Germany yesterday where the host country's Lars Nieberg scooped the winner's prize of a Volkwagen car.
Lynch and Abbervail van het Dingeshof set the pace against the clock in 41.45 seconds, but Britain's Robert Whitaker, riding the Irish-bred Casino, demoted him by a narrow margin before Nieberg and Lord Luis scorched home almost two seconds faster.
Irish riders also finished prominently in the 1.50m Grand Prix at Vejar de la Frontera in Spain yesterday where Trevor Coyle (Bijor vd Vijfheid) slotted into fourth, Anthony Condon (Wertherroschen) was seventh and Billy Twomey (Tinka's Serenade) claimed 10th place. Meanwhile at the third and final weekend of the Villeneuve Loubet tournament in France, 20-year-old Mayo rider Alex Duffy followed up his Grand Prix victory of the previous week with a win in yesterday's Accumulator aboard the brilliant little grey Courtown.
At home Cian O'Connor won the fourth leg of the HSI Chippison Grand Prix series at Kill International yesterday with Castlemartin Stud's Complete.
