Equestrian: Irish fail to hit top form

Ireland finished joint-sixth of the eight competing countries in the sixth leg of the FEI Nations Cup Superleague in Hickstead yesterday, writes LOUISE PARKES.
Big scores were the order of the day, and Shane Breen (Cos I Can), Jennifer Crooks (SJ Uryadi), Billy Twomey (Romanov) and Denis Lynch (Nabab's Son) collected a massive 44 faults to slot in alongside the Dutch and only just ahead of the Danes, who are already doomed to fill one of the two relegation places.
Despite yesterday's poor result, Ireland -- for whom Crooks went clear in the first round -- are third in the league table going in to the penultimate round at next week's Dublin Horse Show.
Germany came out on top in a three-way third-round jump-off against France, who finished second, and the USA, who slotted into third.
