The Irish show jumping team makes one last bid to qualify for London 2012 at the FEI European Championships in Madrid this week and it's not going to be easy, WRITES LOUISE PARKES.

Just three qualifying places remain for European teams, and among the countries that are still hoping to book their tickets are the Swiss, who are European champions and recent winners of the 2011 Promotional League.

The Irish squad includes World No 6 Denis Lynch, Billy Twomey, who is ranked No 11, Shane Sweetnam, Niall Talbot, and Talbot's pupil Nicola FitzGibbon, who produced a sparkling performance in the Aga Khan Cup last month.

The action kicks off today with the opening Speed class. The first round of the team competition takes place tomorrow with the second round on Friday and the top 25 riders will go through to the decide the individual medals on Sunday.
