The Spar Spartan Challenge recruited marathon novices of all abilities from 26 counties to take part in Monday's National Lottery Dublin Marathon under the guidance of fitness expert Karl Henry and dietician Paula Mee.
The project was a fantastic success, with the Spartan team growing from four members in 2010 to the 26-strong team that completed Monday's race.
There were some standout performances, including Karl Fitzgerald, from Dublin, who finished in 3hrs 30mins, Wayne Murtagh from Meath (3hrs 48mins), and Hannah Nolan, from Wicklow, who crossed the line in 3hrs 33mins.
As partners to the National Lottery Dublin Marathon, Spar organised 10 cheering zones for spectators around the course, which provided entertainment and encouragement to all the participants.
