A road race that comes highly recommended is the Kavanagh Country 10k that takes place in Inniskeen, County Monaghan -- the birthplace of Patrick Kavanagh.
The race starts in Inniskeen at 11.0 on Saturday week and takes in many of the sights made immortal by the poet.
The event is a fund-raiser for Inniskeen Camogie Club and entry fee is just €15. Contact race director Lorraine Lynch 087-2573150 or www.kavanaghcountry10k.ie
Organisers of the National Lottery Dublin Marathon are seeking nominations for the inaugural 'Lord Mayor's Medal' which will be presented before the start of this year's event on Monday, October 31.
The medal has been introduced to acknowledge an individual or individuals who are deemed to have either overcome incredible odds to take part in the Dublin Marathon or have an unusual marathon story to tell.
Organisers are looking for nominations to be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org before Wednesday, October 19.
Previous Lord Mayor Gerry Breen presented a medal earlier this year to 2009 finisher Martin Codyre, whose brother and friend pushed him around the course.
Codyre was involved in an accident in 2008 which left him paralysed for life and needing 24-hour care.
