Dockrell puts Ireland on cusp of victory

George Dockrell was the star turn on day three of the InterContinental Cup clash with the United Arab Emirates to leave Ireland needing just one wicket today to secure maximum points and take their first step towards Test cricket.
Dockrell took one of the two remaining first innings wickets at the start of play and when the UAE followed on, trailing by 279, he toiled tirelessly to pick up another four victims as the visitors battled hard to take the game into a fourth and final day.
The UAE finished on 251-9, still 28 runs away from making the home side bat again.
On a blameless pitch, the Ireland attack again had to work hard for wickets and were indebted to the subtle variations of Dockrell, who has found himself languishing in Somerset second XI this season after the county signed Pakistan spinner Abdur Rehman.
The former Leinster left-armer sent down a total of 35.3 overs throughout the day, for a collective return of 5-94 while spin twin Paul Stirling chipped in with a couple.
