Do the double

Wayne Bailey

SOCCER:

A Steven Gerrard hat-trick gave Liverpool fans a reason to celebrate on Thursday night and the Reds deserve credit for an impressive second-half turnaround when beating Napoli 3-1 in the Europa League. But before we get carried away with their victory, let's remind ourselves that Liverpool have won just three league games this season, which is a dire record for a so-called top club. Chelsea come to town tomorrow as 11/10 match favourites and that's a good price, given they beat Liverpool twice last season and have only conceded three goals from 10 games thus far. Back the Blues to bring Liverpool crashing down to reality.

HORSE RACING:

There are plenty of newcomers in the opening maiden at Doncaster (12.15), so a big-priced winner is not out of the question. However, Ceffyl Gwell's experience should count for something and the colt was only beaten by a nose last time out at Windsor, having hit 1/2 in-running. I priced him up at 6/4 for this race, so I was pleasantly surprised to see some firms offer 15/8 early-doors.
