Organisers halted the race 93 kilometres into the 168-kilometre stage between Cusset and Mont Brouilly, with five riders - Alexis Gougeard, Alexy Lutsenko, Laurent Didier, Thomas De Gendt and Jesus Herrada - leading the main pack.

The race was in the third climb of the day, Col des Echarmeaux, when it was deemed too dangerous to carry on.

Paris-Nice is expected to resume from Julienas on tomorrow when points collected in today's intermediate sprint of Chauffailles and the first two climbs of the day will be taken into account.
