Ireland's Sam Bennett earned a lot of admiration today for winning the opening stage of the Critérium International in Corsica and then producing one of the best tweets of 2016.

The Carrick-On-Suir native won the sprint finish after his Bora-Argon 18 helped reel in the breakaway group just a kilometre from the finish.

“The guys were committed 100 per and everyone did a tremendous job,” the Irishman added.

“There was a crash with 15k to go and I was at the back of the peloton afterwards, but the team stayed together and brought me back up without panic."

UK-based cycling magazine Cycle Sport appeared to claim Bennett at British (and a Team Sky rider) and the 25-year-old hit back with a brilliant response.
