Young Irish cyclist Sam Bennett won the biggest victory of his career today, taking the third stage of the famous Paris-Nice race.

The Carrick-on-Suir man galloped past all the best sprinters in the race to take a famous success in Chalon-sur-Saone. He even had time for a victory celebration as he crossed the line for a significant triumph.

Bennett will ride both the Giro d’Italia and Vuelta a Espana later this year – and can look forward to doing well in the sprints in those races off the back of this win.

"I had a lot of confidence coming into this just from the feeling in my legs," Bennett said on Eurosport. "I've had good form recently, at the Tour Down Under I had the speed but I didn't get the opportunities.

"I knew with a bit of luck today and the support of my team something was possible."
