It was a poignant moment for Timmy Barry of the Edge CC when he crossed the finishing line in victory in the Shay Elliott Memorial in Killpeddar, Co Wicklow, yesterday.

He dedicated his win to former manager and mentor Bobby Power, who passed away on Friday last.

"It was tough when I cut away from my breakaway companions in the last 10km. From somewhere, I got divine inspiration," Barry said. "I am glad that it was done in Bobby's memory."

Barry seized the moment after the group went back onto the N11 heading for the finish, holding off the late challenge of Mark Dowling of Dectek and Jake Tanner of Sportscover to take the win.
