Cycling: Belletti seals home triumph
Local boy Manuel Belletti burst into tears after giving Italy their second Giro d'Italia stage win in two days with a superb sprint finish in his home region yesterday.
Belletti crossed the line ahead of Team Sky's Greg Henderson and Footon-Servetto's Iban Mayoz as he claimed a first stage win of the race for Colnago-CSF Inox.
Australia's unheralded Saxo Bank rider Richie Porte, the surprise package of this topsy-turvy Giro, kept the overall lead.
The Cesena/Cesenatico area in north eastern Italy is synonymous with Italian cycling -- it was the home of 1998 Giro and Tour de France winner Marco Pantani.
Belletti took his first Grand Tour stage after timing his break to perfection in the home straight when a handful of other riders had looked better placed.
Ireland's Daniel Martin finished almost nine minutes down on Belletti. He is 66th overall.
