Tector and Thompson lead rout of MCC
Jack Tector and Stuart Thompson were the star turns as Ireland 'A' completed a comfortable 10-wicket victory over the MCC at Bready shortly before lunch on the third and final day of a one-sided encounter in Co Tyrone.
Debutant Tector's classy 131 not out on day two set up the win and again showed why the 19-year-old YMCA batsman has been tipped for full international honours as it enabled Ireland to declare on 297-7 with a first-innings lead of 117.
Ireland all-rounder Thompson then ripped into the visitors with a six-wicket haul that saw MCC dismissed for 120 in their second innings, having been 6-5 at one stage. Tyrone Kane and Peter Chase shared the other four wickets in a superb bowling display.
"It was a brilliant team performance and a great effort from the bowlers to take the 20 wickets so quickly," Tector said. "Personally, it's obviously very pleasing to score runs on my debut, and extra special to get a century. We built some good partnerships which took the game away from them."
Elsewhere, Chris Woakes will be back for England in the second Test against Sri Lanka at Durham today in place of the injured Ben Stokes.
