CRICKET IRELAND'S stylish awards show in the Mansion House on Friday night was a reminder of just how far the sport has travelled in Ireland.
A six-minute video montage of highlights of the last 12 months cleverly mixed international and club events, and the spread of awards – which along with the top awards, included recognition for juniors and volunteers – was indicative of an organisation very much sure of its footing.
Cricket Ireland, under its CEO Warren Deutrom, is the poster boy for Irish sporting organisations. It has an excellent sponsorship partner in RSA, playing numbers are growing year on year and Irish teams are making significant international progress.
Friday night's celebration was exactly that. And it showed that cricket in Ireland is one very happy family indeed.
