Cricket body earn respect

IRISH cricket didn't quite get what it deserved in Clontarf last Thursday. It was a chance for the game here to show a big audience (courtesy of Sky Sports) that it means business, but the rain played havoc with the one- day fixture against England.

Cricket Ireland is one of the success stories of the last decade in the way in which it, firstly, runs it own affairs, and secondly, in which it runs Irish cricket. It is a professional, well-run body which spends its money wisely, and this is now being translated into success on the pitch.

The preparation of the ground in Clontarf last Thursday showed an organisation at the top of its game and it was just a pity that the long rain delays prevented Ireland from showing its true colours on the field too.

Eoin Morgan said afterwards that Ireland needs more exposure on the world stage. They deserve it too.
