Michael Schumacher’s wife Corinna has said that her husband is slowly improving after coming out of an induced coma.

In her first public statement since husband Michael was hospitalised after cracking his skull on a rock while skiing in an French Alpine resort of Meribel, Corinna says she has been encouraged by the progress of the Formula One legend.

“It's getting better, slowly certainly, but in any case it's improving,” she told Neue Post, a German women's weekly magazine.

Schumacher, 45, spent 170 days in hospital in the French city of Grenoble before he was transferred to a rehabilitation clinic in the Swiss city of Lausanne that specialises in care for brain injuries last month.

The Bild newspaper has reported that Schumacher has responded to his wife’s voice.
