Team Ireland lost their lead to Switzerland at the top of the A1 Grand Prix series when driver Adam Carroll was forced out on the first lap of the feature race in the fifth round of the championship at Kyalami in South Africa.
Carroll, who had earlier finished fourth in the opening sprint race, started sixth on the grid for the feature race.
He was passing the Malaysian car of Fairuz Fauzy on lap one when he was hit from behind, sending his car spinning into the gravel.
Switzerland now lead the standings with 73 points ahead of Ireland on 70 and Portugal in third place on 64.
"He just hit me in the back-right corner. I'm really annoyed and pretty angry about it," said Carroll.
