Ireland's Paddy Barnes has qualified for a third successive Olympic Games following victory over Finol Rivas in Venezuela last night.
Barnes won on a split decision with two judges scoring the fight 49-45, 49-45 in his favour while the third awarded the fight 48-47 of Rivas to secure Barnes' seventh win of the season and a place in the Rio Olympic Games.
And Michael Conlan has joined Barnes in another Olympic Games following tonight's unanimous decision over Jose Diaz.
That win moves Conlan into second in the bantam table and was enough to squeeze him through to the Rio Games.
Billy Walsh and John Conlan, father of Michael, were working the corner in Venezuela.
“We’re absolutely delighted. Paddy and Michael have been magnificent this season, as have all our boxers in the WSB, and we’re delighted to have qualified two for the Olympic Games,” Walsh told the Irish Amateur Boxing Association website.
