Katie Taylor is finalising her preparations for a return to the ring this weekend and it has been confirmed that she will take on Italian opponent Monica Gentili at London's 02 Arena.

Taylor will make her third professional appearance as part of the show, with Gentili a replacement after the first choice opponent withdrew due to illness.

Gentili, 39, has won her last two fights, and will represent a stern test for Taylor as she works her way towards a potential world title fight in Dublin later this year.

The showdown between David Haye v Tony Bellew tops the bill at an O2 Arena venue that sold out in double-quick time, with the animosity between those two fighters evident from a series of bust-ups in the build-up to their fight.

This is set to be the first of two high profile appearance by Ireland’s Olympic golden girl in the coming weeks, with Taylor also penciled in for a fight on the Anthony v Joshua v Wladimir Klitschko world heavyweight title fight, that will take place in front of 90,000 spectators at Wembley Stadium on April 29th.

Taylor’s promoter Eddie Hearn has released footage of her latest sparring session, as he tagged her ‘the most exciting female fighter on the planet’.
