Controversial heavyweight champion of the world Tyson Fury has sparked fury from animal rights campaigners after he revealed that he eats hedgehogs.
The Gypsy king was immersed in controversy recently for homophobic and femanist rants but even by his own lofty standards, his latest claims are somewhat bizarre.
In quotes reported by the Star and the Sun, the Gypsy King claims he marinates the hedgehog while his brother also eats bullfrogs.
Promoting an event in Birmingham, Fury is quoted as saying: “My brother breeds bullfrogs and rare hedgehogs for eating.
“I’ve eaten hedgehog — it’s like nothing you’ve eaten before.
“Marinate them in honey, but them on a clay tray and bake in the oven.”
Hedgehogs are an endangered species but it is not illegal to eat them in the UK.
However, animal rights campaigners reacted angrily.
"We are very disappointed. Hedgehogs are in decline massively in the UK," said a spokesperson for the British Hedgehog Preservation Society.
"They need all the help they can get. To talk about cooking them for a snack doesn't help at all."
