Antia set for first tournament at helm

Interim head coach Zaur Antia takes charge of the Irish Elite team for the first time competitively in Bulgaria later this month.

Antia, along with John Conlan and Jimmy Halpin, will be working's Ireland's corner at the Strandja multi-nations in Sofia from February 22-28.

Michael O'Reilly and Brendan Irvine have been called up to the squad, along with Ray Moylette.

Michaela Walsh, Shauna Browne-O'Keefe and Christina Desmond have been named in the three Olympic weights for women of fly, light and middle for the tournament.

The IABA have also confirmed a squad for the Gee Bee multi-nations in Helsinki next month. World Elite champion Michael Conlan will wear the Irish bantamweight vest in the Finland.

Team Ireland are preparing for April's Olympic qualifiers in Turkey.

The squad, including Katie Taylor, are currently training with Russia in Antrim.

The training camp finishes Friday with test matches.

Taylor has two fights lined up against Serbia's Jelena Jelic and Queen Underwood of the USA in Cork and Kerry on February 19 and 20.
