Boxing: O'Sullivan ready to defend title
CORK'S Gary O'Sullivan has been handed a 120-day ultimatum to defend his new WBO International middleweight title.
The Leesider claimed the vacant belt after earning a unanimous (117-111, 115-114, 117-111) decision over Manchester's Matthew Hall on Saturday's undercard at Upton Park. A career-best win saw O'Sullivan improve to 15 straight wins and shoot right up the world rankings.
Meanwhile, unbeaten Jamie Kavanagh, who took silver for Ireland at the 2008 AIBA World Youth Championships, beat American lightweight Paul Velarde in Las Vegas on Saturday in the undercard to the Amir Khan/Danny Garcia fight.
Willie 'Big Bang' Casey took the WBA European super-bantamweight title after beating Nottingham's Jason Booth in Sunderland last night.
