Boxing: Ireland show class to trounce Germans
IRELAND'S young guns hammered Germany 9-2 in yesterday's Veles Cup round-robin clash in the Oblast region of Russia.
European junior silver medalist Jason McKay, Colm Molloy, Gary Cully and Mike Gallagher all recorded wins inside the distance.
Ireland, who drew with the USA Junior Olympic side on Tuesday, went down 8-4 to powerhouses Russia on Wednesday.
Irish flyweight Gary Cully was originally adjudged to have lost 12-11 to Russia's Kirill Kuznetsov nearly 1,300 miles east of Moscow.
But following an appeal -- Irish coach Billy McClean said Cully won from "here to New York" -- the result was overturned and Cully was awarded an 8-4 win.
Ireland will meet Russia again tomorrow in what will be their final match.
