IRISH middleweight Andy Lee is being lined up to fight Mexican war horse Marco Antonio Rubio for the WBC Interim title while defending champion Sergio Martinez recovers from injury.
If the Limerick southpaw gets the fight he could then meet Martinez, who has beaten Lee's fellow Irish middleweight Matthew Macklin, when he recovers for the title.
Martinez's promoter Lou DiBella said that Martinez will not fight again until early 2014 because of the injuries he sustained in his victory over Martin Murray in his native Argentina last April.
Lee would jump at the opportunity if he gets the call from the WBC.
"If the WBC were to order a fight between me and Marco Antonio Rubio for the WBC Interim middleweight title I would certainly be up for the fight," he said.
"We are both experience fighters and have maintained our top-10 world rankings over the last few years. I think it would make a great fight."
