UCC DEMONS will take on UL Eagles in the men's Superleague Cup final after they beat Neptune 84-66 before a full house at Neptune Stadium yesterday.
Demons coach Paul Kelleher said: "We knew Neptune would be up for this. We had to stick with them early on, but the guys have been practising a lot and have been really focused."
The home side came flying out of the blocks, racing into an 8-1 lead early in the first quarter. But the Demons rallied with Shane Coughlin and Carlton Cuff to the fore as they led 45-41 at half-time.
They extended their lead to 69-56 heading into the final quarter and Neptune's day was quickly turning into a nightmare.
Trailing by 17 points, Neptune coach Mark Scannell lost the influential Ron Thomson to an ankle injury and soon afterwards had Ger Noonan fouled out, as Demons booked their place against a UL side who beat Killester 75-73, with Robert Taylor securing an overtime win.
Glanmire were dumped out of the women's Superleague Cup by the dominant force in the game, UL -- who will take on holders DCU Mercy in the final after they proved too strong for Killester.
