Basketball: Killester and Eagles maintain high-flying form
KILLESTER and UL Eagles continued their impressive form and will go into 2010 leading the way in the north and south conferences.
The Eagles saw off UCD Marian in Limerick, sweeping the Dubliners aside 92-63. Cameron Mitchell and Scott Kinevane led the way for the hosts, who built a 15-point lead in the opening quarter and never looked back.
Killester's success over Moycullen never looked in any doubt in north Dublin as the Galwaymen fell to a 94-72 defeat, Jermaine Turner picking up 14 points. Ulster Elks returned to winning ways on Thursday with a win over DCU Saints, while their clash yesterday against UCC Demons was called off.
UL atoned for their recent National Cup loss to DCU Mercy yesterday when they overcame Mark Ingle's side 62-52 in the Women's SuperLeague.
UL started well with Caitriona Foley scoring the first six points, as Natalie Taylor proved successful from the three-point mark to help the Limerick side to a 15-12 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Killester got their first win of the season with a 65-59 win over Meteors in a Dublin derby.
