Basketball: Hehir's in-form Eagles eye final berth
A MOUTH-WATERING Munster derby between the Southern Conference champions UL Eagles and the defending Men's Superleague champions UCC Demons beckons this weekend as the play-offs reach the penultimate stage.
It's a rare semi-final appearance for the Limerick side but they have been the form team of 2010 and enter the clash with a 100pc record over their Cork counterparts this season.
Eagles head coach Tony Hehir, however, believes his side will need to be strong on defence if they are to claim a final berth.
"Demons had a great away quarter-final win in Belfast on Sunday. They're a very experienced team and our league games to date have all come down to the wire," said Hehir.
"Our defensive intensity will play a huge part in the outcome of this game."
In the other semi-final, Killester continue their hunt for the treble as they take on north Dublin rivals DCU Saints at the IWA Contarf.
Saints stole the headlines in the quarter-finals after claiming a shock 96-84 win over a highly fancied Neptune.
DCU got the better of Killester just two weeks ago, but coach Vinny O'Keefe knows not to get carried away with that result.
"They had already won the Northern Conference so maybe it's the case their eyes were on the play-offs," he admitted.
