Mulcaire in a class of his own at cross country

Kevin Mulcaire stormed to victory in the seniors boys' race at the GloHealth All-Ireland Schools Cross Country event in Sligo on Saturday.

The St Flannan's student was a distant winner ahead of Peter Lynch (St Kieran's) and James Edgar (Friends' School).

Eimear Fitzpatrick (Our Lady's, Terenure) took the senior girls' title, surging clear of runner-up Niamh Ní Chiarda (Coláiste Íosagáin) on the final lap of the contest.

In the intermediate boys' race, Adam Fitzpatrick (St Kieran's) took gold ahead of Coláiste Mhuire's Jamie Battle.

Sarah Healy (Holy Child Killiney) edged out close rival Amy Rose Farrell (Mount Anville) to win the intermediate girls' race.

The junior titles, meanwhile, went to Louis O'Loughlin (Moyle Park) and Saoirse O'Brien (SH Westport).

Aimee McKenna (St Mac Dara's) took gold in the minor girls' race ahead of Meghan Carr - the daughter of Rob Heffernan - while the minor boys' title went to Sean Donoghue (St Declan's).

UL's Michelle Finn and DCU's David McCarthy were clear winners in the Universities' Championship, which was run in conjunction with yesterday's event.
