McCormack flies flag
Fionnuala McCormack produced a strong performance to finish fifth at the Barcelona Half Marathon yesterday in 1:11:35, a race which was won by Kenya's Florence Kiplagat in 1:08:15.
It was McCormack's first outing on the road this year, and her run was within a minute of her personal best at the distance (1:10:44).
Back at home, Rosemary Ryan produced a dominant display to win the women's race at the Irish Life Health Masters Cross Country Championships in Waterford IT, the Dooneen AC athlete coming home in 14:51, well clear of runner-up Sara Doohan of Corran.
The men's title went to Michael Harty of East Cork in 23:24, with Tim O'Connor of An Ríocht coming home second in 23:50.
At the British Indoor Trials in Sheffield, Saragh Buggy of St Abban's finished second in the triple jump with an indoor personal best of 13.08m.
Meanwhile, in New York, Síofra Cléirigh-Buttner continued her fine form by running 4:33.16 in the mile in Staten Island, the fastest time in America by a collegiate athlete this year.
