European 800m silver medallist among four Russian athletes served with bans
Four Russian athletes have been banned for doping in the first suspensions announced since the drugs scandal which has seen the country banned from international competition.
The Russian Olympic Committee announced the bans, according to the Russian news agency TASS, including a two-year ban for Irina Maracheva, who won silver in the 800m at the 2012 European Championships.
Race-walker Anna Lukyanova, a former silver medallist at the world junior championships, also received a two-year ban while runners Maria Nikolaeva and Elena Nikulina were each banned for four years.
According to TASS, the decision was taken by the interim co-ordinating committee of the Russian Olympic Committee based on the documents received from athletics' world governing body the IAAF.
