Usain Bolt celebrates alongside team-mate Asafa Powell after Jamaica broke the 4 x 100m world record

Saturday August 23 2008

Usain Bolt won his third gold medal of the Beijing Olympics and was part of yet another world record as Jamaica romped to 4x100m victory with a superb time of 37.10 seconds.

The quartet of Bolt, Nesta Carter, Michael Frater and Asafa Powell roared around the Bird's Nest Stadium to break the mark of 37.40secs achieved by the United States 15 years ago in Stuttgart.

Bolt, the individual 100m and 200m gold medalist, was instrumental in the victory after running a sizzling third leg as the team finished well clear of Trinidad and Tobago and Japan.

"You can't explain the feeling. It's a great feeling, it's wonderful and you can't really explain the feeling after the greatest Olympics ever, so I'm happy,'' insisted Bolt.

Meanwhile, the British women's 4x100m relay team had only themselves to blame for blowing the chance of a medal as they and hot favourites Jamaica failed to finish.

Both teams made a mess of the second changeover, leaving the Russian quartet clear to take gold ahead of Belgium and Nigeria.
