ALISTAIR Cragg's hopes of becoming the second Irishman to achieve the marathon qualifying time for next summer's Olympics foundered when he failed to finish the 65th Fukuoka Marathon in Japan yesterday.
The Mammoth-based man was to the fore right up to the halfway point -- in a three-man group chasing breakaway leader Josphat Ndambiri -- but he dropped out soon afterwards.
Japan-based Kenyan Ndambiri pulled away to win in a 2:07.36 debut, with another Kenyan James Mwangi second in a personal best of 2:08.38. Amateur Yuki Kawauchi took third in 2:09:57 ahead of Masato Imai (2:10.32).
