Apology

Saturday October 29 2011

In the Irish Independent Sports Section on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 allegations were published about a person, whom we now know as Oliver Scully of Kilkeeran, Portarlington, Co Offaly.

The Irish Independent unreservedly apologies for any impression given of any improper behaviour, misconduct or otherwise on the part of Mr Scully, who was a mentor in a county semi-final in a game at O'Connell Park, Tullamore, between the Ballinamere-Durrow junior 'B' hurlers and Gracefield GAA club in or about October 2009.

The Irish Independent recognises the very good work done by persons such as Oliver Scully, who give selflessly of their time on a voluntary basis in the training of youth teams.

It further recognises the hurt caused to Oliver Scully by the publication in the Irish Independent an excerpt from the book: 'Life, Death & Hurling' by Michael Duignan & Pat Nolan.
