Zaur Antia is to be appointed interim head coach of the IABA's High Performance Unit following the shock resignation of Billy Walsh.
The Irish Amateur Boxing Association's top officials met yesterday and agreed that Walsh's right-hand man Antia should take the reins until the vacancy is filled.
However, last night, chairman of the Irish Sports Council Kieran Mulvey called on the IABA to do a last-minute U-turn and offer Walsh a deal to stay on as head coach or face a review of the association's funding.
"My view now is that deal should be offered to Billy even at this late date and give up the nonsense that's going on now in the IABA about this," Mulvey said on RTE's Prime Time.
"I'm effectively saying when the new funding round for 2016 comes up, we will have to review our relationship wtith the IABA."
