Frankie Edgar is being touted as a potential challenger for UFC champion Conor McGregor and the American took to Twitter this evening to signal his intentions to the Irish star.
‘The Notorious’ lost for the first time in his UFC career at the hands of Nate Diaz last weekend and is expected to revert back to fortunes in the featherweight division where remains the undisputed champion.
Edgar, along with Rafael Dos Anjos - who had pulled out of UFC 196 12 days before he was due to fight McGregor - and Jose Aldo, whom he had knocked out in 13 seconds last December have been mentioned as possible opponents, though McGregor recently rounded on the two Brazilians.
"Jose Aldo you are a p****. Rafael Dos Anjos you are a p****," he said. "When the history books are written, I showed up. You showed up on Twitter. To the fans! Never ever shy away from challenges. Never run from adversity.,” he posted on social media.
Today Edgar highlighted his ambition to take on the 27-year-old Dubliner.
“What do u say @thenotoriousmma? Balls in your court, Now lets see who has a Vagina,” he posted on his official Twitter account.
Edgar has already spoken of his desire to challenge the sport’s biggest star.
"If he's got balls, he'll pick me,” he said in an interview with ESPN. “ It's easier to go in there and fight a guy you know you handled, you know you beat.”
"But if he wants to come back after that loss to Nate and prove the doubters wrong, silence these rumblings about his ground game? He'll fight me."
