Revealed: Conor McGregor was carrying an injury of his own against Chad Mendes
Jose Aldo pulled out of his world title fight because of a rib injury and now it has been revealed that Conor McGregor was also carrying an injury of his own.
McGregor was keen to stress that he felt Aldo let his fans down by not making the fight after people paid their hard-earned money to be in the MGM in Las Vegas on Sunday Morning.
McGregor knocked out Chad Mendes in the second round but only after the latter gave the Irishman a real scare. Mendes is renowned for his wrestling ability and McGregor's coach John Kavamagh has revealed that the Notorious could not practice his wrestling moves in the build up to the fight because of a knee injury.
"I've gotta be honest, when we were walking out to this fight it was in the back of my mind that we haven't done a single round of live wrestling. I had my eyebrows raised and thought, let's see what happens," said Kavanagh on MMA Hour last night.
"Really the first round of full wrestling was done in that fight. His timing a little bit on the sprawl and dealing with the shot was not quite there. It started getting better as the fight went on. Do I think a rematch if it does happen down the line would be different? Yes, for both of them.
"That was the first full test on the knee and he flew through it. He was able to deal with some oppositions. There were some scrambles, there was a lot of wrestling and it held up and there's nothing wrong. So we're 100 percent confident that it's perfect now."
