Referee John McCarthy has revealed what the Notorious Conor McGregor said to Jose Aldo as the man in black raised the new UFC featherweight champion's arm in victory.
McCarthy, who threw himself between McGregor and a stricken Aldo after the left cross that had the Brazilian sprawled out on the canvas, was taking part in a Twitter Q&A when he made the revelation.
When Aldo got back to his feet and announcer Bruce Buffer was about to confirm the result, McGregor had a few words of consolation for the former champ.
It was a nice touch after a week where the pair exchanged barbed comments in the lead-up to the fight.
The account verifies what McGregor said after the fight: "I told him we can go again, although it's a nice feeling to get the knockout...you don't want to see a champions like that going down like that.
"I had a moment where I felt sorry for him.
"It's been a long road and I appreciate that he turned up.
"I said we can do it again but he was off in his own world I think."
