Mendes provided four successful takedowns in the bout, split Conor's right eye open with an elbow and tried for a submission and all the while 'The Notorious' was talking in his opponents ear Muhammad Ali-style.

There was huge respect between the fighter's after McGregor's knockout win inside the Octagon but reporters couldn't wait to ask both fighter's what McGregor was whispering to Mendes.

"I was speaking to him in there," McGregor said.

"I spoke to him throughout every single exchange. ‘It was nothing’,’you’re against a different animal now’.

"I have no ill feelings towards Chad because you thrown in a guy two weeks out from a fight and then you have his team saying all this crazy stuff.

"At the weigh-in, he was bouncing around.

"I said to myself after the weigh-in, tomorrow night there’s going to be no bouncing around.

"When we came face-to-face I said to him: ‘Let’s see who takes a back-step now’. I marched forward and he took the first back-step.

"I didn’t feel nothing. I feel nothing when this featherweight hit me... I feel like a concrete block.

"Every shot I was like ‘No! No!’. I felt I was preserving energy and when I got back to my feet I struck.

"He was searching for his gas tank and I was stabbing his gas tank.

"I said I was going to KO him inside in two rounds. I’m going to toast good business.

"I’m going to head out and toast with my country and specifically my team tonight.

"This is my night, this is Ireland’s night, this is Straight Blast Gym’s night, my coach John, my family... this is our night."

The Californian was amazed that throughout a barrage of elbows McGregor continued to speak to him.

"You got to give it to him, the guy never stopped talking shit the entire time," he added

"I was hitting him with everything I had and he was still running his mouth.

"I landed a giant elbow on his face and he’d say: ‘Is that all you got?’... stuff like that."
