It was a disappointing night in Montreal for Ireland's Aisling Daly who was beaten Canadian opponent Randa Markos at UFC 186 at the Bell Centre in Montreal.

It was a unanimous defeat for the 27-year-old fighter who had her chances in a bout that was viewed as a stepping stone to a strawweight title shot.

Two of the judges scored it as a 29-28 fight, with Daly clearly having the upper hand in the second round, but the final judge gave all three rounds to the hometown favourite (30-27).

It is the first defeat of the Dubliner's career.

“When she landed those elbows in the second round, I could feel the fight slipping away,” Markos said. “But then I realised this was not how it was going to end. I put in too much time, effort, sweat and tears for me to just give up.

"In the third round, I think everyone saw that determination. I just knew all my hard work would pay off in the end. I’ll fight anyone they put in front of me, but I want to fight the best to show that I can be the best.”
