Conor McGregor was named 'Fighter Of The Year' at the World MMA Awards in Las Vegas and used his acceptance speech to criticise many of his fellow professionals.
The UFC star was unable to attend the glitzy ceremony as he continues his preparations for next month’s title fight against Rafael dos Anjos, but in a video projected on stage, the Dubliner called out the “bums” in the audience, while also singling out heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum for special attention.
Werdum could have faced Cain Velasquez or Stipe Miocic at UFC 196 but an injury in his foot resulted in his withdrawal.
“There's another man that must be slayed, another champion that must be dethroned,” McGregor told the audience.
“There's more numbers that need to be broken. I need to feed all you bums. I need to feed every one you in the game so I've got to keep working because you's bums don't work.
“You've got the heavyweight champion who's a pussy pulling out with a sore toe. How's the heavyweight champion going to pull out with a sore toe? What kind of champion is that?
“The game is on its knees. I apologise that I can't be there at the awards but I'm out here putting it in, working, putting in the true work.”
