Conor McGregor has paid an emotional tribute to Cathal Pendred following the 28-year-old Dubliner's decision to retire from the sport of Mixed Martial Arts yesterday.
Pendred suffered a brutal first round TKO loss at the hands of Tom Breese at UFC Fight Night 76 in Dublin last month and after his second successive loss admitted that he would take a break from the sport until after the New Year.
After nine years as a mixed martial artist, the 28-year-old admitted he has lost some of the competitive levels required in the demanding sport after losing his final two fights as a professional.
McGregor took to Facebook to heap the praise on "legend" Pendred, highlighting just how successful he was for the sport and, particularly, Ireland's rise within the game.
The Notorious even had a dig at drug cheats in the sport stating: "3 of those wins coming against opponents who failed post fight drug tests due to use of Performance Enhancing Drugs after the fight! This man deserves endless respect!!!"
