The 24-year-old half-back initially joined the Kingstone Press Championship club on a four-week trial but, after making a big impact by scoring two tries in Sunday's 62-4 win over Whitehaven, has now signed a contract taking him to the end of 2017.

The former Parramatta and New Zealand Warriors stand-off or centre, who holds an Irish passport and represented Ireland in the 2013 World Cup, returned to rugby league after a spell in rugby union with Connacht in the Pro 12.

"I'm looking forward to playing rugby league again and doing what I can to help this team," Pewhairangi said.

London coach Andrew Henderson said: "Api's contribution to the game was excellent. To say that he's been out of rugby league for 12 months and to come here and have his first game and make the contribution he did was fantastic.

"He looked comfortable on the field. In the first two weeks of training he just slotted into the system. I was confident enough in his ability and where he's at physically and mentally to play him today, and he's shown us what he is capable of.

"He's a brilliant addition to our team and we're looking forward to seeing what the rest of 2017 brings."
