Lester jets into down royal to see piggott Jnr
PUNTERS at Down Royal last night were treated to an appearance from a racing legend as Lester Piggott visited the track to see son Jamie in action.
The nine-times winning Epsom Derby jockey posed for a photograph in the parade ring before Jamie was given the leg-up on Captain Moonlite in the claimer.
However, there was no luck for Piggott Jnr as Captain Moonlite was slow from the stalls and trailed home last of nine runners.
Victory in the contest went to Jim Bolger's Royal Focus which collared front-runner Queen Rosemary over a furlong out and galloped on strongly for Kevin Manning to record a two-length victory.
David Wachman got his weekend off to an ideal start as he recorded a one-two in the opening maiden. Danehill Brook was backed into 6/4 favourite and Billy Lee's mount rewarded that support by beating stablemate Amygdal.
