Watch: Horse decides race is no longer worth running

They say never work with children or animals, a nugget of wisdom aptly proved by a wayward horse during a race at Sandown this afternoon.

Punters who put money on The Scoop to win at Sandown were likely planning on how to spend their loot as the 2.40 race went into its final sprint.

Ridden by Barry Gerathy, it looked as though Sandown had it all wrapped up before the beast inexplicably veered off into no man’s land.

Not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, pardon the pun, Leighton Aspell powered on t win the race. Gerathy, to his credit, didn’t give up the ghost and managed to secure a sixth place finish atop the head strong horse.
