The end of one of sport’s longest partnerships was confirmed today as the BBC formally surrendered the rights to The British Open Championship.

Sky will take over TV coverage for the historic event from 2017 and that means no more Peter Alliss to listen to as the world's best golfers go head to head for the Claret Jug.

The legendary commentator has won a huge following through the years and, judging by the Twitter reaction, he will be sorely missed.
