Stoke City’s official Twitter account have offered up a priceless response to a message designed to ridicule their Republic of Ireland midfielder Glenn Whelan.

The Potters social media team posted a message quoting Whelan thanking the club’s fans for their support in Saturday’s game against United, which was notable for Wayne Rooney’s last minute equaliser that moved him to the top of United’s all-time scorers list.

That post inspired a response suggesting Whelan ‘is amongst the least mobile central midfielders in the league’, which was not well received after his battling display against United’s star-stuffed midfield.

With a cheeky reference to the world record price-tag United paid to sign French international Pogba last summer, Stoke served up an especially cutting response.
