Life-long Manchester United fan Rory McIlroy has revealed his favourite United player and joked that he would love to see Alex Ferguson get into the ring with Roy Keane.
The Irish golfer was asked a number of football questions after completing his bogey-free first round at the Turkish Airlines Open in Antalya, Turkey, yesterday.
The 26-year-old said current captain Wayne Rooney is his favourite player of all time, while the much-maligned Eric Djemba-Djemba was United's worst signing.
McIlroy has publicly stated his admiration for the hugely successful United boss on a number of occasions and has previously described how he sat in a 'trance' listening to the Scot deliver a motivational talk to the European team ahead of the 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles.
According to The Daily Mail, the decorated golfer had a quick response to a hypothetical question from reporters.
"I'd pay a lot of money to see Alex Ferguson knock Roy Keane out," he laughed when asked light-heartedly about the pair settling their difference in the boxing ring.
McIlroy also admitted it was a "weird" start to the season for the Red Devils but had full confidence in £36m signing Anthony Martial.
"I think Martial will be a great signing, I think he already is a great signing. And with the experience they've got, they will be okay," he said.
